Working Together to Stop the Spread of Purple Loosestrife
Targeted shoreline treatments are scheduled for mid-August. Impacted shoreline property owners will be contacted directly with additional information and any required authorization.
The Tiger Cat Flowage Lake Association (TCFLA) remains committed to protecting the health, beauty, and ecological integrity of the Tiger Cat Flowage through proactive aquatic invasive species management.
As part of these ongoing efforts, TCFLA is addressing Purple Loosestrife, one of Wisconsin’s most aggressive invasive wetland plants.

📍 Why Are We Treating Purple Loosestrife?
Purple Loosestrife is a non-native invasive plant that spreads rapidly along shorelines and wetlands. If left unmanaged, it can form dense stands that crowd out native vegetation, reduce valuable habitat, and negatively impact the natural balance of our aquatic ecosystem.
Targeted treatment is the most effective—and environmentally responsible—way to prevent this invasive species from becoming widely established and spreading to new locations throughout the Tiger Cat Flowage.
Recent Surveys Identified Purple Loosestrife Populations
As part of TCFLA’s ongoing invasive species monitoring program, recent shoreline surveys identified several locations containing Purple Loosestrife throughout the Tiger Cat Flowage.
To address these findings, TCFLA has contracted with a licensed aquatic invasive species management professional to conduct targeted shoreline treatments.
Treatment activities are anticipated to occur in mid-August, weather and site conditions permitting. All treatment work will be completed using Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR)-approved methods and in accordance with applicable state requirements.
Shoreline Property Owner Notifications
Only shoreline property owners with confirmed Purple Loosestrife growing on or immediately adjacent to their property will receive a separate notification by email or U.S. mail.
Those direct communications will provide additional details about the proposed treatment, the treatment process, and any required shoreline owner authorization before work can proceed.
If you do not receive a direct notification, no treatment is currently planned for your shoreline.
A Community Investment in Healthy Lakes
This important invasive species management effort is being fully funded by the Tiger Cat Flowage Lake Association and its members, with no cost to participating shoreline property owners.
Every successful treatment helps reduce the spread of Purple Loosestrife, protect native plant communities, preserve wetland function, and maintain healthy habitat for fish, birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.
